June 15, 2015 FINAL LETTER of the MISSION

Welll its been a graet ride these last few weeks have been really interesting as i have reflected in all of the things i have lived through over the last few years, i still remember leaving you guys July 10, 2013 and thinking im not gonna cry im going to take the bull by the horns. I didnt cry that day and i could probably count the times i have in my mission these two years have been filled with so much joy. I use the word joy because i have come to learn that joy comes from obedience, it has to do with the peace that we feel when we do what we should and dont have regrets. Now im not saying i was a perfect missionary there has only been one of those in the whole existence of this world. What i have done is learned why I´m here which is something even more valuable to me.

As missionaries we are called to invite others to come unto Christ by helping them recieve the restored gospel of Jesus Christ through his Atonement, and it is through that atonement that we are able to acomplish this amazing work. Dad, Cristian , and Mom i feel as though you will understand this very clearly and it might have a different deeper meaning because of the service you have given. Derek, you are about to learn what this really means I can honestly say that the concept of an atoning sacrifice has a lot more meaning after being here for two years, I have seen how it has helped me maybe more than the people i was supposed to be helping. and i know you will too as you learn to trust in him. When you have to learn spanish i think you will understand alot of what i mean.

I love Mexico so much and I have mixed feelings about going home right now, yesterday we met a new investigator and put an appointment on saturday, I went from being really excited to being slightly depressed in a matter of about half a second. but i just keep pushing on right now trying to share about Christ.

Dad last week you invited me to talk about Christ and help others to know about him. this last week we went and contacted in one of the sisters areas. it was going alright and we didnt have much luck to be completly  honest but we were determined to talk with someone. so we contacted a woman in the street and she didnt seem all that interested, but we kept talking, and in the middle of the mini lesson a short bald man interupted our conversation and asked us how he could find peace in his life. he told us he had cancer and an open wound on his leg, he had lived through just about everything good and bad in this life and talked with just about every religion that exists in Mexico. And he just looked at me and said do you know what its like to have gone through kimo 4 times and to know that your cancer is terminal. he was almost yelling as he asked me. and i responded no. i have never had cancer nor could i feel the pains that you have felt but someone has and that someone is Jesus Christ. he has felt all of your pains and knows all of the suffering you have felt here. so he asked if he would ever get over the pains that he has felt here on earth. i told him rather frankly that he would feel pain as long as he was on this earth we have an imperfect body. it gets sick and eventually has to die, but if we really trust in the atonement then it will heal us and give us peace, after that we talked about how the resurection would work, he said great so i will never be happy until after i die, the best way i could responde to that was to explain the words of king benjamin about service, the truth of the matter is that when we serve others and forget our problems we seem to find that joy and peace that we want, and so to conclude we invited him to be a better father husband and friend in the time he had left. he teared up a little and said thanks for your words of confort,

while i was walking away after that talk i looked at my companion and said i dont think i could have had that conversation two years ago. he responded and said no you couldnt have you didnt speak spanish;P it was funny but a great moment to think about how valuable the last two years have been.

I loved the mission, the last two years were awesome, extremely taxing mentally, physically emotionally and especially spiritually but i wouldnt have changed these two years for could have lost as a result of these two years of service! I know my savior lives he atoned for our inperfections, and i know that his church and his gospel were restored by jose smith and are here on the earth so that we can be together forever as a family. im so greatful for all of your support over these years the letters and emails and packages at christmas.

Con mucho amor

sorry i cant write much today it is kinda an epic fail i am saying goodbye to some of the families i knew in my other areas and one of them invited us to eat so i have to hurry and write. life has been great just a lot of work lately we dont have many investigators so finding people to teach has been my goal lately we are contacting the whole less active member list right now we have knocked about half of the doors i think but they´re like 250 in my side of the ward so its a good work. this week i felt like i understood the saviors teachings about the lost sheep i dont think i have seen so many people get so emotional when i got to there house as in this week. and derek the power of hymns is incredible dont forget to sing in lessons it brings the spirit to any leccion.

this week we went to eat with a sister and there was kinda an ugly situation in one of the little house next door, so we saw a little girl leave crying, and invited her over we made sure she was ok and i asked if we could sing to her, so we sang like 7 hymns until she calmed down, the spirit is a cool thing when its with you!

other good news im getting the older woman in our house to stop smoking little by little and she promised she wouldnt smoke my last day. i think she will get baptized just needs a little more time but she is so awesome!

June 1, 2015

wow well sorry i didnt write much this week but it was kinda a slow week we walked a ton its the hardest part of being new in the area is im just gettig to know people that are possible baptism candidates but l ife is going great right now im loving  being with my companion. not sure how but i talk him in to going to work out in the morning.

i cant wait to see you guys but a sister just got home in out ward and an elder got home last week basically everyone is comig home right now and its so wierd to think thats right around the corner. but its ok i will do what the lord lets me in the time that is left and try and help my companion the best i can! love you all some much you guys are the best!

alright alright alright alright... well here we are in the barrio de cuchilla de tesoro and we're just havin a marvelous memorial day.  today i played softball as a zone. it was really fun ha reminded me when we played baseball in the backyard jaja so what else can we talk to you abuot this wonderful day. oh yes of course the last week that we had... sorry to write in this form but i kinda feel like im answering my last email..;P

ok well best news goes first we had a baptism!!!!!!!! i love baptisms not so much when no one else shows up on time not even the bishop but thats mexico for ya! but it was a great experience!!!! companion baptized for the first time and he seemed pretty content in the night when we got home!

what else can i tell you hmm well the lady that rents us the house is awesome! she is like grandma just a little more rude its so funny when we get home at night she chews me out if i get home after nine and we always fight about how she needs to get bapized. i mean she had it coming when teh first day she said she is catholic to the bone. i laughed and asked her when the last time she went to misa was.. i think it was a few years ago in someones baptism. but all the joking aside we have had some good lessons with her. right now we are trying to help her to stop inhailing poison so she can se her grand children longer in this life as in the next one too.!

rainy season is starting down here so you know what that means? no more showers in the morning!!!!!! the rain takes care of it just need to bring my head and shoulders with me!!! cant wait for the thunder storms they are pretty sweet not quite as good as when i lived in kanab but they are entertaining!

hmmm well that was basically my week i hope that you guys had a gooden and are enjoying your day of from stress except for you mom you still have your task of beating all small children jaxon and jordan especially ! de les unas chancladas de parte de mi!!!!!! well peace out cub scouts, boy scouts and non scouts!!!

MY new area is freaking awesome! and super close to my last area im in cuchilla estaca aragon. its so legit and my new comp is a stud his name is elder cruz. talk about taking your cross with you in all times. what else is new i live in a place you cant see on google maps but i will ask the land lord for the wifi so i can send you pics.

we worked so hard yesterday because no one was home when i got to this area, but we are now teaching a full family and i feel like they are ready to learn already. i found the skousen talk and im sending it to you guys.

one cool lesson we had yesterday was talking about how we can perserverar hasta el fin. and the man we were teaching who will get baptized in two weeks had a question about how he could perserverar hasta el fin. so he asked us what he had to do. so i thought about some of the talks i have read lately. one by john bytheway called war chapters int he book of mormon and especally for young men by boyd k packer. they are both marvellous talks. but anyway while discussing thoughts words and deeds in mosiah 4:30 i felt a sudden urge to read about when capitan moroni puts up the standard of liberty . and explain that that is how we can help ourselves to endure to the end. we must verify that our words thoughts and deeds need to be worthy enough to be in the precence of our good. in acuerdance with our religion or ethics, will permit us to maintain our freedom from any addiction, leave us with peace at the end of the day, and that it would show honor too our name and not offend wife or children. one of those moments when i dont know where it came from cause i had never discussed it with another companion but it just felt right the book of mormon is here to help us learn so many things and it is an amazing book!

well not much else to tell because i talked to you three days ago, but i love you all so much, not ready to go home yet, but i love you!

May 4, 2015

alright have a gerat week i will talk to you guys on sunday thanks for the update and maybe this renting idea isnt so bad after all... have a great week i love you a ton!

April 27, 2015

well the time that has passed out here has been just great i just am enjoying life and moreso because we will baptize on saturday! being a missionary is great but it is a ton more fun when you are bapitzing. we should get three dunked in the next few weeks! and then i will have changes so i guess i cant complain. i will be working with president this wednesday! and i really am excited i just hope it goes better than the last time and who am i kiddin i dont think it could go worse! we are hittin up all of our investigators this wednesday with him and i feel like the lessons will be very positive! tomorrow i will go in splits and all in all its going to be a busy week! but i wouldnt have it any other way!

now that im in the count down of weeks left each one passing quicker than the last. and part of it has to do with the fact that we are 4 elders in the same house! its a party but we seem to stay focused in the correct times and we all work hard! i spoke in church yesterday. and i was thinking do you think it would be a problem if I gave my homecoming talk in spanish? they do it in confrence and we should follow our liders right! jaja just kiddin. although if i dont have an american comp my next cycle my spanish might be more understandable than my english! oh derek we will have fun for the week and a half after i get home!

so what else is new right now. last week I went in divisions with the zl and we had a ball just contacted a ton of people and taught the law of chastity and word of wisdom in front of like 10 people with the starting question what does the church think about homosexuality. its wierd that its just a normal subject now i think when i started my mission that would have been really uncomfortable! but now its just normal. i saw meet the mormons like 4 times this week. i think i almost have it memorized after taking all of our investigators to the visitors center to watch it. sometimes i try and translate it to english in my head and imagine what the actual voice would be like. i guess i can wait till i get home to figure that all out!

well life is great out here we're going to eat cochinita in a bit with some members its the closest i get to sweet pork in mexico oh how i do miss cafe rio... thats such a strange thing to say seeing that im serving in mexico. but i miss it so badly. I do wish i could take derek for tacos but we'll have to do it when he gets home! but derek i will say you need to buy a torta when you get to mexico city just letting you know that you need to sneak out and buy a torta.. its like a sandwich...  in front of the temple you go to the visitors center like once a week so you should be able to do it once you just have to cross the street in front of the temple and buy a sandwich i get hawaiian. im saying this now so that you can remind me when i get back! ok !

love you all so much! have agreat week! and please dont see rent my room to people i will pay rent if i have to just let me find a job!

with love elder jenson

Cristian wrote a great quote in the calandar you sent me that i have used many times in the past few weeks. i love how he said faith in god means faith in his timing. this was a fantastic week we only had a couple days of fun contacting but i loved what i learned from this week.

Wow what a week first off i cant tell you how glad i am that usa pulled through on wednesday. because i may or may not have put piña coladas on the game with my companion and Gerson. haha everyone gave me a hard time on thursday because of the win but its ok i have even contacted some people this week cause of it. secondly we got a less active sister to go to church after 9 years of inactivity. now were trying to get her mom to come back too. but honestly the work here is going well other than the investigator that we were going to baptize went out of town again. but we'll get him in the next couple weeks. haha

I had the opportunity to talk to an amazing family that by the natrual eye would seem like a family that is a little out of place in the sacrament meeting the brother never goes with a tie and they live with a bunch of people that drink and smoke. not the ideal croud. but this week when we ate with them they had some issues with one of the elders in my district. so after the food i stayed with my companion to try and smooth things over with the family. we had a 4 hour talk about the trials they had faced over the past two years after having lost their oldest son to a freak accident. he was a bout jacobs age when he passed and as they told us the experiences they had faced since his passing it hit me hard seeing the pain that they feel. i dont think i have ever cried as much as i did on thursday in my whole mission. but then they told me that they go to church so that they can feel peace and confort that one day they will see him again. when people share thoughts like that with me it helps me put this world into perspective.

ive really enjoyed the last few weeks and am looking forward to keeping things like they are or better for till the end derek our president sent us a letter about raising the bar its the talk that was used to raise missionary expectiations. i was going to send it to you but then i  remembered that its in spanish and it probably wouldnt help that much yet. but look up that talk it will help you prepare a little im sure you are doing a great job preparing love y'all so much! cant wait to talk in 3 weeks!

April 13, 2015

well i tried this week but i got shut down a lot more so we focused on investigators and put a baptismal date it was awesome my child is growing up so fast right now im starting to let him take control of lessons and planning for our investigators he is doing a great job and other than answering deeper doctrinal topics he does really really well!

this week has been incredible for me it was a toughie because nobody wanted to talk with us in the street but we had a great time with investigators! I am really really pumped about my district this week they had a crazy experience and i got to help a little with what they were going through. i feel like ihave a lot of confidence with the elders in my district! they are working hard and im just loving my mission right now this is probably the most fun i have had in my whole mish.

this week we had interviews and i got a new recomend! i figure i only get one from my mission president so i had to take advantage! we had a great talk and he was really content with the way i was helping the elders in my district and liked my goals for them. i wish i could have had this vision my  whole mission its just a blast! my president also told me that i will have one more area before i finish the mission! so right after i call home for the last time i will be getting into my last area! how crazy well ihave a lesson in like 5 minutes so i have to go but I love you all so much!

alrighty so these last two weeks were absoulutely awesome. first off last weekend was gersons baptism and it was awesome! he seemed really happy with his decision, and he got  a job three days later. so right now we are pretty happy about how he is doing.  rest of that week was pretty  normal or maybe a little below average. but right now we are loving life! changes were last week and two of the elders in my district had changes. right now im district leader again and just trying to get tan outside with my kid. jaja

In the leaders meeting he invited us to talk to every one like he has done my whole mission and told us he wanted to se how many people we could contact in a week. my companion and I took it to heart. i have never talked to so many people in my life and now im just trying to get my district to buy into the talk to everyone you see program. because last week flew by just trying to get our goals and working.

One fun story was when i had to go and do an interview like friday and on the way there we contacted everyone in our wagon in the metro, i just looked at my companion and told him i would meet him in the middle he smiled and just said ok. love him he is so game to just work with me that probably why we get along pretty well. but yeah its just been like that all week just a talk to the whole city before i go home;)

So how about confrence it was freaking awesome!  i love love love confrence im pretty sure it converted all of the investigators that went we are planning to baptize in two weeks and the guy that went just loved priesthood session. my favorite talks were President packer and Elder ballard. but there were so many good talks that its just hard to choose. I loved the focus on the atonement and the resurection of Jesus, that was my focus all week when i talked to my district and basically anywhere i went to teach.

Yesterday morning, ok first off for the three days before sunday i had invited my whole district to read sections in the bible talking about the resurection and the atonement/ crucifiction of Jesus Christ. then sunday after asking the 4 companionships to evalute one of the 4 accounts of the resurection of Christ me meet for a breakfast/ testimony meeting. the spirit was so strong there and it almost broght me to tears to hear the powerful testimonies of our district. I know he lives and try and contemplate what he has done for  me. i think of all of my mistakes and its hard to understand sometimes how he has so much patience with me. and im the one who is supposed to be an example for the people i teach. but this time i have been out here has brought me lots of joy and understanding.

well i cant wait to here how your week went i love yall so much you cant imagine. and I liked to relflect on your plan dad not so much details but personal conversion. so many times as a leader in the mission i have tried to change the elders, but it helped me see that my job wasnt so much chew out t he elderes as much as help them get converted to what they need to be doing.  so thanks!

Love elder Jenson

March 23, 2015

hmmm did you eat street tacos too? jaja right now i am having a much better week and i know p day definately shouldnt be the best story of the week but you have no idea how long it has been since i have played basket ball on a hard wood floor. this may have been one of my favorite p day activities. it was a blast like you  have no idea. i played all morning today and i could almost dunk but considering that the guy in the gym killed my legs this morning im pretty sure i could do it. well right now i feel great aobut my mission because Gerson will get baptized this week!!!! he was quite a process but im so so happy that he made the decision finally but we know that satan has to get a hand on everything and he got super sick last week. so the only thing that would keep him from getting dunked saturday would be the doctor not clearing him. hate that. but im really happy down here right now.

why do we have to have mexicans right now... i wish i could be there to talk to them it would be interesting to see how it is on the other side of the deal because i feel like the people here have a lot of patience right now.  help them out as much as you can right now  having a new missionary in the area is fun but sometimes its hard because they still are learning how to teach the gospel. so sometimes they say stuff that need a gentle correction. trust me these last few weeks have been so much fun but I forgot how hard it is when your companion knows just a little more of the doctrine than most of the people. but new missionaries have a great spirit. i feel like that raw testimony that they have is very powerful and helps lots of people see the sincerity of their testimony. even if it`s said with doctrine or vocabulary that the investigatores dont understand.

this week was a great week for teaching investigators but the numbers didnt quite say so. jaja its ok people arent statistics they are children of god and sometimes reaching goals is less important than helping people out. our investigator gerson got sick about like you dad i felt so bad for him, and so we went to visit him for a little while. he is a great guy and needed a little lifting of the spirit, so we went and talked with him about his life for a long while it was really a good important convesation. our other investigators are doing well, i am praying we baptize for the next two weeks and that should be what happens if everything keeps up how its going!

hmmm what else happened this week, well saturday someone vandilized the baptismal font so some of the other elders and i got the fun job of cleaning up for an hour during the relif society activity we had saturday. people that are inmature really frustrate me. and this week i got up to 178 i have been eating rice like a sumo over the last few days and it has payed off. jaja the guy in the gym is killing me. he made me do up downs and jup rope and ride the bike for the last 15 minutes every day. today i jumped rope 400 times my calves were dead... but im doing well loving my time!

hope you have a great week love you all so so so much!

and just so you know dad i get home the 20th of june...
and also nice move you pulled there to get out of running i mean im sure if you would have just thrown up the day before you could have gotten out of it, but hey you sold it well;) get feeling better!

March 16, 2015

Thanks for taking care of me, one of the hardest challenges i have had over the last few weeks is staying focused. every house i have been too has asked me about my time in the mission  and what my plans are after the mission. i tell everybody go to college and get married when im thirty jaja but  it is really nice to know what options i have when i get home. and i will say im super happy about dereks call but why did it have to come last saturday. jaja our president has been giving permision to all the missionaries to call home when family members get there call so of course i asked for permision to call and he said yep. but i guess its fine that he got it early to kill the suspense! and of course i cant wait to have spanish conversations at night with the little broski!!!!

great to hear about missionary efforts back home right now im loving working with the members in the ward. its really great to have some members that are focused on the work and it has made the last little while really enjoyable it would just be that much better if the people would just get baptized! gerson said he would be getting wet this weekend or the next i mean seariously he is in alma for pete's  sake! it more than time;) dad i dont know if you ever had to get someone to stop living together but if you have any tips i would gladly accept them!

so this weeks story of the week... i had house revisions and it was hilarious the guy that checked our house asked us if we had an x box in the house so i said yes but not the flat screen. its hard to see on our little dvd player. he told me he would see what he could do. also i had divisions this week and ate the biggest hamberger we could find. can i just start off saying the level of stupidity there is in buying a hamberger dispues de vomit the sunday before. i dont know what i was thinking but i ate rice, chicken and vegies for the rest of the week so that i could get better. derek word of advice if you get sick learn how to make good white rice it makes everything ok when you are sick! but seeing as you will be in the u.s. im sure you will have a little bit better higene as far as eating out goes. #lovemexicanstreetfood #mexicanstreetfoodhatesme the true meaning of a  love hate relationship.

well life is great over here! im closin in  on 180 but right now im probably about 175 after being sick for a week! so we'll see how everthing goes! love you all so much super proud of all of you for your accomplishments and dont die this weekend iin the 10k still dont know how mom pulled that one... oh and feliz aniversario que tengan muchos mas estoy super agradecido por esta decision. sin aquello decision no estaria aqui asi que gracias muchas muchas gracias.

elder jenson

March 9, 2015

hmmm all i can say is people do crazy things for love... but i respect you! i wouldnt just go run 4 miles just for fun. ever... but if i had to speed walk 4 miles i'm pretty sure i would own it! jaja i will admit the speed walking abilities are pretty legit! and this week went so so well. other than sunday when i turned into a dragon but we`ll get there.

so like i said this week is going great. we finally got gerson to put his own baptismal date. first he tried to put june 20th but i said that was a lame goal cuz i wouldnt be there. so then he just laughed and said ok i was really thinking that the 21st or the 28th of march i will get baptized. i was soo happy! then we talked with the other investigator that we have her name is Ana and she is doing everything she can to get baptized but satan is fighting pretty hard its been really cool to see how she is progressing.

life is going great right now my companion is picking up on the routine of the mission a little more. Its fun to watch him get the hang of teaching lessons, planning and doing other missionary things. its funny to think that derek will be going throgh the same process in a few months. speaking of which when will that call get here??? i would love to hear where my little broski will go on the mission! ç

thanks for letting me know about the football stuff and school stuff. another question when would i start school?

and im sure you want to know how i converted into a dragon. well saturday night some members gave us some food and im pretty sure they didnt cook the meat the necesary time. so it was a little raw. i became more sure of that feeling when at about 12 30 in the morning i threw up every part of that taco i ate. it was horrible horrible horrible but it gets even better cause i went to church and told the bishop i would leave after the first hour. he said it was fine and right after the meeting leaving the front gate i threw up all over a tree in front of the church it was kinda funny looking back on the expèrience. jaja i gave half of the older members of the ward a scare when i just sat down next to my puke  it was kinda a fail.  so i got checked by one of the mission doctors and they gave me some drugs. and now im fine but it was a pretty funny moment for me!

so i hope you all have a great dont get sick because thats no fun haha love you all so so much !

March 2, 2015

alrighty well the work is going well over here. right now im just having a ball trying to get the ward members to work with us. so we talked to the elders quorum president and asked him for all of the less active elders or people that could become elders he seemed really pleased with what we were doing. and to be completely honest i have no idea how to animate ward mission leaders right now i have an awesome one. but what i think helps is, one their disposition to work. and two the work and progress he sees from the elders. generally speaking i have seen that even when i have lame mission leaders if im working my can off  they like to be part of the success because the look better in front of the ward members. but your example is the most important part. they will follow what you do and maybe even equal youre efforts. so i woul just suggest that you tell the sisters to work more in the wards where the mission leaders are dispuestos to work hard.
i love the quote "el que no vive para servir no sirve para vivir" we cant reall put it in action but we have to be in the service of god with all of our heart.

sorry to hear about sickenesses. im doing well right now a little worried about the next two months cuz they are the times of year when most elders get sick. but i hope i learned from bad experiences and can make wise choices for my child and I.

good news we have an investigator named kimberly who is doing really well and the others are doing well. just waiting small things to get baptized. im having a really good time in this area right now its nice. the biggest downer of the week was when one of the people we are teching told us that he wouldnt be continuing the talks with us because he didnt feel good leaving the virgin. i felt like we planted the seed well so hopefully in the future things will go better if he gets another chance to talk to the missionaries in the future

my week went well hope you all have a gooden!
